According to the mayor, the goal of the board is to ensure that every weekend in the city is booked with well-advertised events such as the Gold Coast Marathon, Magic Millions, and Gold Coast 600. The newly formed Major Events Gold Coast should also be responsible for attracting more state and national sporting events to capitalize on the city's new portfolio of Commonwealth Games related to world-class sporting venues.
